WHY USE STYROFOAM

Efficiency, effectiveness...

There are many forms of outdoor advertising that can help create company’s image. They differ in materials, usability and price. One of the most impressive are the inscriptions on the wall made of Styrofoam letters.

What is Styrofoam

Generally foam is referred to by any of the following names: Styrofoam, EPS foam, Polystyrene, PS foam, XPS foam or simply foam. They are all essentially the same thing, although the material comes in several different densities and corresponding strengths. Creska will provide a recommendation on the most appropriate type and density for the product proposed.

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS)

EPS is made using small polystyrene beads that are inflated using heat and a blowing agent within a block mould, where they expand. Expanded polystyrene is therefore made up of millions of closed cell spheres. The size of the spheres can be varied in the manufacturing process to produce a variety of densities (or grades) with different mechanical and thermal properties. Expanded Polystyrene is available in blocks 2400 x 1200 x 600mm.

Extruded Styrofoam (XPS)

This material is very similar to polystyrene. It is light, easy to paint with acrylic paints resistant to weather conditions. The only difference is that styrodur has a more homogeneous structure. As it is smooth, it cannot crumble, as is the case with polystyrene. It is easy to process, which translates into great possibilities when creating 3D advertisements – logos, graphic signs, inscriptions on the wall.

Styrodure is made by mixing liquid chemicals together with a blowing agent, to form a frothing mixture, which is then pushed (or expanded) through a shaping die to give the required size. XPS is generally only available in sheets 2400mm x 600mm and various thicknesses upto 100mm. Extruded Polystyrene is about 8 times the cost of Expanded Polysytyrene, for a given volume.

Benefits of XPS

Lightweight Common materials are foam (very light in weight), but plastic, wood, metal, and combinations are also available

Any size No project is too large or too small. If you need a element that is 1 inch long that is just fine, but if you need some letter messaging that is 100 inches long – no problem. If you can design it, we can create a physical model of it.

Cost Effective An alternative where other materials would make a project feasible

Eye Catching finishes may be combinations of painting, air-brushing, flat-to-glossy finishes, natural environment finishes, soft-shell and hard-shell coatings, sealers, and glassing.

Fast Turnaround Items can be made in a fraction of the time it would take using conventional materials like wood or concrete

Recyclable The best part! Any waste produced is recycled into new foam blocks.

NOT just EPS or XPS

Fibreboard

Fibreboard, more generically known as medium density fibreboard (MDF), is also quite suitable for carving. It is substantially stronger than polystyrene foam but much heavier. Dimensions of the stock material do not offer the versatility offered by polystyrene foam.

Solid wood, PVC, Glass

Foam materials work very well with other composite materials such as wood, plastic or glass. In many projects, the use of additional materials may be necessary to meet customer expectations.

The use of an appropriate technique of finishing makes it possible to combine different materials with a very good effect..

Styrofoam and Polystyrene - possibilities

Using Styrofoam letters, we can present the product in an original way, show the way in the building or draw attention to an important element of the office space. This material can be used to make a company logo that will decorate a reception or a conference room. Wall inscriptions made of Styrodur have the advantage over Polystyrene in that they are durable enough to be placed both inside and outside the building.

Meanwhile, polystyrene letters can only be used for interior display. They are less durable, but they look just as interesting. They are a good proposition for people looking for cheaper advertising media.

By using a plexiglass face, spatial letters made of Styrofoam can be made more attractive. The glassy surface made of plexiglass combined with the matte structure of Styrofoam gives a very interesting effect. Three-dimensional letters with such a front can be installed outside buildings, especially if they are additionally illuminated.

Bold Messages

Large letters are ideal for making a bold emphasis on a brand, product, or message. Most often when thinking of large letters, smaller sizes come to mind. In reality, if you want a 6′, 10′, or 20′ tall humongous letters – we can do it! Adding interesting design aspects by having extreme thicknesses are possible.

Branding

At trade shows, these huge letters serve as a magnet to attract large crowds and to stand-out amongst myriads of other trade show booths. Retail stores can use them for visual marketing and product branding. Special events can use large letters to clearly identify the main message points.

Events

Need a 12′ tall x 80′ long x 6′ deep word created? – no problem! We can build extremely large letters and numbers. They can be built with bases or self-standing. They can be built with internal structures for added strength. Various hard coat finishes, painting, and airbrushing are all available.
